SK-II: Is Your Skin Older Than You Are?

Back in November 2012, SK-II unveiled their groundbreaking counseling tool that has recalibrated the benchmark for skincare counseling. I remember trying it out then and got an atrocious skin age result of about 42 years old (I was 28 then!!). Since I was at Vivocity today, my mom and I popped by Tangs to try out SK-II’s Magic Ring. I wanted to know if my skin improved any, and my vain mother wanted to prove that her SK-II regime is the bomb.

My pictures in this post are gonna be slightly dark cos I took them with my iPad and the lighting outdoors was a bitch to work with.

Anyway, SK-II’s Magic Ring measures your skin in 5 dimensions: texture refinement, firmness power, wrinkle resilience, spot control and radiance enhancement.

The gadget itself looks sleek, high tech and sexy albeit a little bit scary. It kinda looks like a helmet to me and my dad asked the beauty consultant if she stole a part from Ironman’s costume =.=

On a separate note, the consultant at Tangs Vivocity’s SK-II was super friendly and helpful. I forgot to get her name but good job girl!

Le Mother getting Magic Ring-ed and my fat ass side profile… I really need to go get Botox back in my face. After taking a side profile shot with the device, the beauty consultant will show you the different areas of your face with the corresponding results. The entire process took about… 15 minutes each?

My skin has improved dramatically since 2 years ago when I had the face of a 42 year old.

I’m turning 30 this year but my skin is 29! Of course, there are tons of things I can improve upon but for someone like me who smokes, drinks less than enough water and sleeps only about 4 hours a day – I think 29 is pretty damn respectable. I attribute this to my one and only Facial Treatment Essence. If I could marry an inanimate object, this would be it. According to Magic Ring, if i used FTE regularly i would have a skin age of 22 years.

I honestly think that my skin is getting from sucky to suckier because of the fact that I blog beauty, so I’m required to change my skincare routine every 4 weeks in order to review products that are sent to me. It’s great fun but this is definitely taking a toll on my skin. Before I started this beauty blogging thing I was on the full range of SK-II products and I had a flawless complexion. I’m not bragging okay – my mother is still on the full SK-II regime and just look at her results.

Mama’s skin age is 39 years, and she’s……………….. 54 years old.

She has even confused the system. It told her that an FTE user’s skin age would be 41 hahaha. But seriously she is disgusting. Why is my mom’s skin so good but I haven’t inherited her genetics? I should take turns reviewing skin care products with her so we both get a chance to be on SK-II for prolonged periods.

I also learned several new things:

  • Apply Facial Treatment Essence with a cotton pad so it goes on more evenly and thoroughly. You can use any leftovers as an intensive mask on zits or dry areas.
  • Toner helps everything else absorb better.
  • You don’t have to wait for your products to absorb before moving on to the next step.

I was recommended these products to use to improve my 5 dimensions:

Facial Treatment Cleanser (not pictured), Facial Treatment Clear Lotion, Facial Treatment Essence, Whitening Power Spots Specialist, Cellumination Aura Essence, Stempower and Cellumination Day Surge UV.

I’m already on those in bold.

Mom and I both have relatively serious pigmentation issues (her more than me) so the beauty consultant strongly advised that we get the Day Surge UV for protection and Spots Specialist for prevention. And did you know… if you do a Magic Ring consultation test you’ll get up to 3 free SK-II samples? GO NOW!

Ended up spending money again.. seems like every time I go to an SK-II counter I buy something.

The samples I got were Cellumination Deep Surge EX, Cellumination Aura Essence and the Cellumination Day Surge UV. Everything else came out from my own pocket.

Replenished my cleaners (reviews here) and eye mask and got the Spots Specialist. I don’t have any other skin care reviews lined up for the next month so I’ll be going back to my trusted SK-II products. I’ll try to go for a magic Ring test again so you can see the difference.

This might be an ad, but all products (other than the samples) were fully paid for by myself.
