The Nail Social

Local  start-‐up  The  Nail  Social  is  advancing  into  the  beauty  and  lifestyle  scene   with  a  brand  new  concept  incorporating  an  invigorating  mix  of  beauty,  F&B  and  retail,  alongside  a  focus  on   giving  back  to  society  and  supporting  underprivileged  women  in  Singapore.

A  latest  addition  to  the  hip  Haji  Lane  enclave,  The  Nail  Social  is  a  novel  lifestyle  concept  salon  that  offers  nail   and  foot  reflexology  services  (to  start  in  April  2015),  coffee  and  desserts,  as  well  as  fair  trade  retail  all  housed   under  one  roof.  Customers  can  enjoy  full  access  to  The  Nail  Social’s  complete  suite  of  offerings  in  a  luxuriously   intimate  setting,  including  a  personal  iPad  pre-‐loaded  with  movies,  games,  magazines  and  books;  coffee  and   snacks  before,  during  and  after  beauty  care;  as  well  as  complimentary  wine  on  Friday  and  Saturday  evenings   with  minimum  spend.  Customers  will  also  be  glad  to  know  that  most  nail  products  used  are  organic,  non-‐toxic,   fair  trade  and  cruelty-‐free,  making  their  visit  to  the  salon  environmentally  and  socially  friendly,  and  safe,  even   for  expectant  mothers.  For  an  added  personal  touch,  all  customers’  preferences,  from  their  favourite  nail   colour  to  the  level  of  ticklishness,  are  kept  on  records  and  the  manicurist  will  refer  to  these  records  at  every   visit  to  ensure  consistency  and  personalisation  of  their  services.  The  Nail  Social  is  also  working  with  Lisa  Soon,  a   reputable  spa  consultant  to  introduce  an  in‐house  nail  spa  treatment  menu  with  products  made  from  100%   natural  ingredients,  freshly  mixed  every  day.

Aside  from  offering  a  relaxing  and  therapeutic  experience  for  its  customers,  The  Nail  Social  hopes  to  further   develop  this  lifestyle  concept  into  a  socially  responsible  enterprise  that  creates  sustainable,  positive  impact  on   the  community.  Focusing  on  local  underprivileged  women,  The  Nail  Social  has  reached  out  to  single-‐mothers,   ex-‐offenders  and  women  from  low-‐income  households,  in  hope  of  empowering  them  with  vocational  skills   training  and  thereby  paving  the  way  for  better  life  opportunities.

The  selected  women  will  undergo  a  professional  manicurist  course,  jointly  sponsored  by  The  Nail  Social  and   Singapore’s  largest  nail  school,  The  Pink  Room  International  Nail  Academy,  to  provide  accredited  certification   to  help  improve  the  beneficiaries’  long-‐term  employment  prospects.  Besides  offering  full-‐time  employment   within  the  salon,  The  Nail  Social  also  embraces  flexible  working  hours  for  those  whose  familial  commitments   might  have  traditionally  prevented  them  from  entering  the  workforce.

“The  Nail  Social  was  established  with  the  aim  of  helping  women  with  a  higher  barrier  to  employment  progress   from  a  position  of  vulnerability  to  security  and  self-‐sufficiency.  We  hope  to  continue  engaging  this  segment  of   the  society  for  sustainable  impact  and  positive  results,  and  we  look  forward  to  including  suitable  candidates  as   part  of  our  core  team  at  The  Nail  Social,”  says  Ms  Cheryl  Ou,  co-‐founder  of  The  Nail  Social.

As  an  advocate  of  social  causes,  The  Nail  Social  is  also  extending  their  support  towards  other  social  enterprises   in  Singapore.  Available  at  the  store  are  desserts  procured  from  stay-‐home  single  mothers  registered  with   Beyond  Social  Services  (a  non-‐profit  family  services  centre)  –  where  proceeds  from  such  sales  make  up  an   important  source  of  income  for  them.    The  Nail  Salon  will  also  be  serving  a  selection  of  tea  and  hot  chocolate   sourced  from  Puro,  a  Belgium  organic  fair  trade  brand  that  works  towards  buying  and  protecting  areas  of   rainforest  in  South  America.  Hello  Flowers,  another  local  social  enterprise  that  trains  and  hires  low  income   women  in  the  art  of  flower  arranging,  will  also  be  retailing  their  masterpieces  and   conducting   related   workshops  at  The  Nail  Social.

Adding  to  the  vision  of  The  Nail  Social,  Ms   Ou  says,  “At  The  Nail  Social,  we  hope  that  our  customers’   experience  and  overall  sense  of  satisfaction  are  enhanced,  knowing  that  every  dollar  spent  is  not  only  as  a   treat  to  themselves  but  is  channelled  into  making  a  difference  to  someone  else’s  life.”

The  Nail  Social  is  located  at  42A  Haji  Lane,  and  opens  from  11am  to  9pm  on  weekdays  and  10am  to  8pm  on   weekdays  (closed  on  Mondays).  For  more  information  on  The  Nail  Social,  please  visit  www.thenailsocial.com.
