7 Ways to Fake Dewy, I-Woke-Up-Like-This Skin

1. Exfoliate your face weekly. You probably slough away dead skin cells with a physical exfoliator (a formula that has scrubbing beads in it that buff your complexion to perfection) every night, but once a week, it’s a good idea to incorporate a chemical exfoliator into the mix for an even deeper exfoliation. A chemical exfoliator like Le Weekend De Chanel contains 6 percent glycolic acid that’s gradually released throughout the day so it won’t cause irritation. It helps break down and eliminate any oil or debris that could be lodged in your pores, causing you to break out. Two things: A little goes a long way with this product, and if you’re applying this super-slougher during the day, be sure to apply sunscreen immediately afterward, since it will make your skin sensitive to the sun’s rays.

2. Apply your makeup right after you moisturize. If you want to ensure your foundation smooths right over your face flawlessly, slather on your lotion or cream, and, while the formula is still moist to the touch, apply your foundation. This allows the hydration of the moisturizer formula to help the foundation or concealer blend in more easily, leaving a dewy finish behind.

3. Don’t use a shimmery foundation. You were born with glowy, not shimmery, skin. So instead of slathering on a foundation with light-reflecting particles all over your face, simply pat a shimmery highlighter on the areas that will catch the light perfectly — like your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, and in the center of your forehead — without making you look like you’re a walking disco ball.

4. Use a cream blush. Since loose or pressed powder blush will mattify your skin, you’ll want to use a cream blush to keep your look cohesive. Apply one, using your clean finger or a blush brush, onto the apples of your cheeks, along the sides of your forehead, down your T-zone, and over your eyelids for a natural flush. Try Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Stick.

5. Choose a moisturizing spray mist. Mists that contain only water and zero moisturizing ingredients will dry out your skin rather than hydrate it. To give your skin an instant boost of moisture, spritz one like Chanel Hydra Beauty Essence Mist, which contains skin-plumping hyaluronic acid and moisturizing vitamin E, on your face midday.

6. Skip lip gloss. When you’re creating the look of dewy skin, don’t reach for a gloss to top off your makeup because it can compete with the sheen of your skin. Instead, use a hydrating lip color that offers a subtle shine. For a more matte finish, you can blot the formula after you’ve applied it to your lips with a tissue. Try Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine.

7. Remove your makeup daily. This cleanses your skin of product buildup that can cause it to look dull and lackluster. To rid your skin of dirt, oil, bacteria, and makeup at the end of a long day (or night), use a gentle foam cleanser, like Chanel Mousse Douceur Rinse-Off Foaming Mousse Cleanser. After washing your face, follow up with eye makeup remover, like Chanel Démaquillant Yeux Intense Eye Makeup Remover, to ensure there isn’t any residue left behind.
